(principal investigator)
Received his education in zoology, marine science and oceanography at the universities of Kiel (Germany) and Maine (USA), respectively. Since 1998 he is working as adjunct professor at Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) in Coquimbo, Chile. His main research interests are in the behavioral ecology of marine invertebrates and the functioning of marine communities. Together with his students he has studied the reproductive biology of a variety of free-living and symbiotic crustaceans, and the community dynamics in biotic habitats (mussel and ascidian beds, algal turfs and kelp forests).

(manager of laboratory)

Studied Marine Biology at UCN and presently is enrolled as a M.Sc. student in the Faculty of Marine Science at UCN. His main interests are in the reproductive biology of rock shrimp, which was the topic of his undergraduate thesis. He now is studying the temporal succession of floating algae and the fauna associated with them. His hobbies are nature photography, which he uses to raise interests in the common public for biological conservation. Occasionally he escapes into higher spheres when he para-glides along the coastal mountains of the Coquimbo region.

(research associate)
Marine Biologist, conducted his studies at UCN. His main research interests are in marine macroalgae, primarily everything related to ecology, taxonomy, and culture of local algae. Presently, he is preparing his M.Sc. thesis, related to the chemical defense of macroalgae, with a major emphasis on their changes in palatability, and inducible defenses. At this moment he his preparing some experiments related to the colonization of coastal habitats via floating macroalgae. Erasmo is also an expert on the preparation of professional webpages as can be seen by looking at these pages.

(research associate)
Student of Marine Biology at UCN since 2000. Her main interest is ecology and taxonomy of peracarid crustaceans. She has participated in a study on the fauna associated with floating algae from the fjord region in S-Chile and is now working on peracarid assemblages from floating algae sampled along the Pacific Coast of Chile.

(exchange student)
Studied biology in Rostock University, Germany. There she concentrated in zooplancton. Presently she works on her thesis about differences in the palatability of macroalgae in floating conditions.

(student abroad)
Marine biologist and magister student of UCN. He conducted his thesis research with Dr. Miriam Fernandez at ECIM in Las Cruces, Chile.
